After the long summer heat, the evenings become cooler, the light turns softer and warmer, and spending time outdoors feels enjoyable again.

Austin’s fall scenery is a little different from the dramatic autumn color you might see in other parts of the country. September and October often still feel lush and green, while golden grasses and warm evening light add a soft, seasonal feel. As we move into November, cooler temperatures arrive and you may begin to see more muted greens, golden tones, and touches of fall color throughout the landscape.

Before You Book

Mini sessions are designed to be quick, fun, and efficient. They're perfect for families who want updated photos for holiday cards, gifts, or simply to capture this season of life without committing to a full session.

A few things to know before booking:

Mini sessions take place at a predetermined location, date, and time. Time slots are scheduled back-to-back, so please plan to arrive 5–10 minutes early at the exact designated meeting spot and be ready to begin at your scheduled time.
Each mini session includes a 15-minute session, your complete edited gallery in both color and black-and-white, plus a $50 print credit.
Because of the shorter session length, we'll focus primarily on family portraits and a few favorite groupings. If you're hoping for lots of candid moments, outfit changes, multiple locations, or a more relaxed pace, a Full Session is likely the better fit.
Payment is due in full at the time of booking and is non-refundable, as your reservation secures a specific time that cannot be offered to another family (think of it like a concert ticket)
Please be available for both your scheduled session and the listed rain date. In the event of inclement weather, sessions will automatically move to the designated makeup date.

What Fall Looks Like in Austin

If you're new to Texas, you might be wondering what "fall colors" look like around Austin.

While we don't experience the dramatic reds and oranges found in the Northeast, fall in Central Texas has a beauty all its own.

Throughout September and October, many of Austin's favorite photo locations remain lush and green while the surrounding grasses gradually turn warm shades of gold. Combined with cooler evenings and the soft, golden light of fall sunsets, the result is a timeless backdrop that photographs beautifully.

What to Wear for Fall Family Photos

Choosing outfits is one of the biggest questions families have—and one of the easiest ways to elevate your photos. The goal isn't to match exactly, but to coordinate colors, textures, and layers that complement both your family and your location.

For Austin's fall landscapes, I love warm, earthy color palettes like creams, camel, olive, rust, mustard, soft blues, and rich neutrals. These tones photograph beautifully against golden grasses, green trees, and the warm light that makes fall in Texas so special.

Since our temperatures can vary throughout the season, layers are your best friend. Lightweight sweaters, textured dresses, boots, and long sleeves add visual interest while still keeping everyone comfortable.

One of my favorite things about photographing families in Austin is that no two locations feel exactly the same. Whether you're dreaming of an open field at sunset, a quiet creek, towering oak trees, or a modern downtown backdrop, there's a location that fits your family's personality.

During the fall, many of Austin's most beautiful locations feature lush green trees, golden native grasses, and warm evening light. While every location photographs beautifully throughout the season, some shine a little brighter depending on the month, the weather, and the look you're hoping to achieve.

When choosing a location, I always encourage families to think about the overall feel they want their photos to have rather than chasing a specific backdrop. A playful session in the creek creates a very different story than an elegant sunset in an open field—and both can be equally beautiful.

Absolutely! Many families schedule their fall session specifically for holiday cards, gifts for grandparents, and updating the photos displayed in their home before the holidays.

I hired Lindsay to do Fresh 48 and in homeNewborn photos for my first baby and she was amazing! My son ended up spending the first five days of his life in the NICU and Lindsay was amazing at being flexible and finding a time to come do the photos in the NICU once things settled down a little bit and my son was healthy enough to have photos taken just before he was discharged. Not only that but she created beautiful images in the world’s most poorly lit little area of the NICU where my son was stationed. Perhaps even more importantly she came in to take the photos with a great positive energy and immediately made us feel comfortable even though we were in a stressful situation and had nurses hovering around us. For the in home session, she was amazing at capturing stunning shots and had creative ideas about how to get the best photos. She also was so good with my son in his individual photos taking care to make him comfortable and cozy. Finally I want to add that Lindsay’s turnaround for the completed photos was SO FAST!!
