Who doesn’t love a VW Bus? They are so nostalgic and cheery. I mean the minute I see them I just want to turn on my Eagles Rock station on Pandora and chill. But the very best part about them (in my opinion anyway) is they make such a great photo prop!
VW Buses photograph beautifully and the kiddos smiles are so natural because they are so excited by the bus.
Last year was the first time I started offering mini sessions with VW Buses. It started with the Funky Bus sessions in San Diego. Those went so well, I decided to give a Holiday themed one a try.
When I found Owen the Bus, I knew magic was going to happen!!
There was however, one little hiccup with the Holiday Bus Mini Sessions. I had a vision of a Christmas tree on top of the bus. This was non-negotiable for me. Well, I booked Owen for mid-November and the problem is, Christmas trees are not available until Thanksgiving weekend. I spent hours calling various Christmas tree farms with the hope of finding someone who could give me a Christmas tree. When I didn’t have any luck I started thinking outside the box – could I use a fake one instead? No – it just wouldn’t be authentic enough. Could I find a Photoshop file of a Christmas tree and Photoshop it in? I tried – but, again they all just looked too fake. Back to google. After a few days I FINALLY found a farm that came to my rescue. It was a bit of a drive and I was going to have to cut it down, but hey! I finally found my Christmas Tree!!! I let my youngest stay home from preschool the Friday before the mini sessions and we drove out to Elgin Christmas Tree Farm to cut down a Christmas tree.
It ended up being such a fun adventure, I quickly knew this would become a tradition.
Here is a a little video of him cutting down the tree we chose.
Now I had our tree, Owen the Bus, and a quick trip to Hobby Lobby resulted in all the additional props I would need. It was time to do this thing!
The Holiday Mini Sessions were a huge hit! They went so smoothly, I almost could not believe it. The weather was perfect – sunny and cool so clients could wear fun winter outfits. It was a great afternoon! So, without further adieu – here are some highlights from the mini sessions with Owen. ☺
I LOVE playing with reflections.
So many fun ways to make the most of the bus!
The littles love “driving” Owen
Furry friends added to the fun!
Now after that major overload of fun Holiday Bus photos, you may be wondering what I mean by “Timeless with a Twist”.
Adding props to photo shoots is so much fun – it definitely adds an element of magic and energy. But I am a strong believer in always delivering timeless along with the fun. So in this particular blog, Owen is the twist; the fun, unexpected element if you will. But, as a rule (that I made up for myself), every photo shoot will include a timeless, minimalist shot. So after our fun with the bus, I took each family off to the side and took a few family photos where the beauty is in the simplicity of capturing just the family.
Can you tell that I like to over-share photos? ☺
I am excited to announce that for the second year in a row I have booked Owen to make some magical holiday photos!
